Hellmuth Wins 13th Bracelet with WSOPE Main Event Victory

Playing what he describes as “the best poker” of his life, Phil Hellmuth was the last man standing in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event (a starting field of over 400 players). Hellmuth held the chip lead for most of the final table thanks in part to adopting a more aggressive playing style than most fans of the “Poker Brat” are used to. Antonio Esfandiari covered the live stream of the final table  and was taken aback by Hellmuth’s performance: ” I was shocked, impressed and completely confused by Phil Hellmuth today.” Esfandiari stated. By defeating Ukranian businessman Sergii Baranov, Hellmuth won 1.02 million euros and took the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year standings (which he will win unless Greg Merson can win the WSOP Main Event set to resume later this month). Phil became the first player to win the Main Event of both the WSOP and WSOPE and seemed to appreciate the history he was making, ” I know people don’t expect me to use this word, but I’m humbled,” he said. “I’m trying to figure out if this is real or not.” Hellmuth also joins Esfandiari as the only other player to win more than one bracelet in 2012 and extends his own record of most bracelets won, widening the gap between himself and Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan who are tied for second with 10 bracelets apiece.

*Antonio Esfandiari‘s success continued as he took down the second event of the WSOPE.  The € 1000 entry fee for the event was only 1/1000 of  what he paid to enter the Big One over the summer. Antonio outlasted a field of 626 players to win his third bracelet and managed to take the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race.

*In other tournament news, PokerStars player “maratik” took down the Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). A small stakes grinder, maratik won entry to the Main Event through an FPP satelite. Outlasting 1825 players, maratik agreed to a deal at the final table (after stating “I wont million”)  which earned him over $900,000. By being the last man standing he won another $100,000 and the championship title and brought joy to all those who were rooting for the underdog to win.

Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari Visits Stern Tomorrow

Antonio Esfandiari tweeted earlier today that he’ll be on Howard Stern’s show tomorrow (9/18).

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

The interview will surely touch on the life of a young poker pro living in Vegas as well as Antonio’s historic 18+ million dollar win at the Big One for One Drop at this summer’s WSOP.

Not too shabby…

Stern will likely also ask about Esfandiari’s long time friend Phil Laak and Laak’s girlfriend actress/poker player Jennifer Tilly.

A lovely pair…
