Daily Poker Update

A collection of odds and ends from around the poker world…

*Fresh off interviews for the Lederer Files and the 2+2 Pokercast, Howard Lederer decided the stress has been too great to conduct a scheduled interview with Diamond Flush. As DF tweeted over the weekend:

Diamond mentioned a Plan B though and yesterday released the first part of her commentary on the Lederer interviews “The Distortion of Truth in the Lederer Files.” Upcoming parts will be released this week and will feature DF using her unique insight to dissect the claims Howard made in his interviews.

*French pro Arnaud Mattern is no longer a PokerStars Team Pro. He is looking for “new adventures” according to a tweet sent out early this morning:

Tournament Poker News
*Greg “Fossilman” Raymer won the main event at the Heartlnad Poker Tour stop at the River City Casino in St. Louis, Missouri. The 2004 WSOP Main Event champ’s victory is even more impressive considering it is his second this year (Raymer also won the event in Albuquerque) and his record in HPT events is now 2 out of 3! Dennis Phillips also made the final table and finished in 7th place.

*PokerStars announced the schedule for the upcoming Caribbean Adventure. The 40 tournament event starts January 5 next year. Read more here.

*And finally, Brandon Cantu took to Twitter to voice his displeasure after losing to John Aguiar in a WSOPE event. Cantu claimed he was “robbed” by the decision to delay his heads up match with Aguiar do to the start time of the WSOPE Main Event which Aguiar was registered for.

Daily Poker Update

*Antonio Esfandiari‘s success continued as he took down the second event of the WSOPE.  The € 1000 entry fee for the event was only 1/1000 of  what he paid to enter the Big One over the summer. Antonio outlasted a field of 626 players to win his third bracelet and managed to take the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race.

*In other tournament news, PokerStars player “maratik” took down the Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). A small stakes grinder, maratik won entry to the Main Event through an FPP satelite. Outlasting 1825 players, maratik agreed to a deal at the final table (after stating “I wont million”)  which earned him over $900,000. By being the last man standing he won another $100,000 and the championship title and brought joy to all those who were rooting for the underdog to win.

*More Howard Lederer interviews are on the way. The Two Plus Two pokercast will be interviewing Howard Wednesday night and releasing the podcast Thursday. Howard will have at least one more interview in the near future, as must-read  poker journalist “Diamond Flush” tweeted earlier:

Tom Dwan apparently just watched the Lederer Files and tweeted some thoughts:

The Poker World Responds to The Lederer Files

Here’s a collection of some of the many responses to the Lederer Files that have popped up online over the last few days.

It’s only right to start with Matthew Parvis who actually conducted the interview. He gives his thoughts in a written article on PokerNews- The Lederer Files: The Process and Opinions

Not exactly Edward R. Murrow

Next is an interesting blog from Bill Rini. He offers his unique perspective on the videos as someone who actually worked for Full Tilt in the past.

Well played Rini

And The Lederer Files Parts 5, 6, and 7 covers the end of the interview.

Daniel Negreanu took a brief respite from tweeting to conduct a short interview with PokerListings. Negreanu: Ivey, Juanda Will Refute Lederer Files

Haralabob tweeted a blog will be out soon with his thoughts:

And finally, if you missed it here is the great montage of Lederer’s interview:

Vanessa Rousso is…Writing a Poker Book with Annie Duke?!

PokerStars Pro and GoDaddy girl Vanessa Rousso is apparently working on a heads up no limit poker book with none other than Annie Duke.

Vanessa Rousso

Vanessa in Trademark Funky Hat

Perhaps jealous of all the negative publicity that her ne’er-do-well brother Howard Lederer is receiving this week, Annie dropped the news that no one in the poker world was waiting to hear earlier yesterday on her Twitter account.

The book appears to be the result of a poker themed Mad Lib hastily filled out by a drunkard.

When last we saw Annie Duke she was fleeing the sinking ship that was UB.com to bankrupt promote the travesty that was the Epic Poker League. At least one pro  was quick to call out Duke’s latest attempt to cash in on the poker community:

(Referring to the failures of  what has to be one of the worst named poker leagues ever)

Despite winning the 2010 National Heads-Up Poker Championship (somehow besting both Darvin Moon and Jerry Yang) Duke is not considered a strong heads up player, and neither is Rousso. If nothing else we can hope the book will inspire some new players to take up the game, or give bad advice and make the games a little juicier. But maybe, just maybe, we’re all being a little too cynical here. This book might revolutionize the way we think about HUNL. I man it’s not like Duke just shamelessly promotes anything to make a quick buck.

If I’m not mistaken these are the 7 Signs of the Apocalypse

Responses to “The Lederer Files”

Parts 5 & 6 of the PokerNews interview with Howard Lederer were released today and after a slow start the interview is becoming interesting. Lederer’s first interview since Black Friday naturally has a lot of poker players talking, here are what some famous pros are saying on Twitter.

2003 WSOP Main Event Champ Chris Moneymaker tweeted:

Sports bettor/ high stakes poker player Haralabos Voulgaris (who Erick Lindgren has reportedly owed a large sum for some time) comments on Lederer’s claim that Lindgren borrowed $2 million (actually receiving $4 million) to pay back debts:

Daniel Negreanu was outspoken as always. A few of his many tweets on the subject:

Former FTP pro John Juanda also chimed in with some thoughts and corrected Howard’s claim that Juanda was the 2nd largest shareholder in the company:

And finally on Reddit, someone claiming to be a former employee at Full Tilt Poker (“ftpinsider” ) gave a glimpse behind the scenes at FTP and shared his feelings from watching the video. The Lederer Files: 30% Truth, 30% Plausible Deniability, 30% Lies, and 10% Fucking Bullshit by ftpinsider can be found on reddit here.
